UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY - My New Project With Scott Snyder - 7/23/2019

At San Diego Comicon last week, I finally unveiled the project I've been working on with Scott Snyder for the last few years - UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY, a new Image Comics series that will take you on an adventure into a changed America.

I am beyond excited to be a part of this team of incredible creators. We have the art team from my Darth Vader run - Giuseppe Camuncoli (pencils) and Daniele Orlandini (inks) as well as colors from Eisner-award winning Matt Wilson (The Wicked + The Divine, Paper Girls and much more), and letters by Chris Crank! (Curse Words). The legendary Will Dennis is editing.

Here’s a quick summary of the story:

“In Undiscovered Country, readers will journey into an unknown region that was once the United States of America—a land that’s become shrouded in mystery and literally walled-off from the rest of the world for decades. A small expedition enters the former US in search of a cure to a humanity-ending pandemic. They travel inward and learn the secrets of what America has become; each member seeking their own form of truth in the undiscovered country.”

Scott and I have been planning this book for a very long time - we’ve wanted to work on something together for ages, and it took a while for our schedules to align, to get the right idea, to link up with the rest of the team, etc. But it’s all in place now, and we’re planning a long run - thirty issues or so. The book will constantly evolve and change - what you see in the beginning isn’t necessarily how it stays. It’s a road trip through America, and America is many, many things - both now, and in the world of Undiscovered Country. It’s hugely bombastic (that’s one of Scott’s favorite words), with truly strange ideas and imagery around every corner, but there’s also a strong thematic spine anchoring the thing together, cool characters, etc. The book is also grounded in real (though exaggerated in the comic) science, geopolitics, etc. which is something that matters a great deal to me.

The initial announcement of the book landed very, very well, with lots of interest from retailers and fans, which is exactly what you want, of course. The book’s production is well underway - we actually gave away the full Issue 1 at SDCC to a select group of comic-shop owners so they could order with confidence. We’re giving this one our all, and we hope you’ll check it out.
