August 15, 2018- POE DAMERON #30
Yowza. As I type this, I realized I haven’t done a weekly release post in… six weeks? Man, time flies. In my defense, it’s been an insane six weeks, with many things happening that are extremely exciting but I won’t be able to talk about for a while. The site always has to come second to actual stories that must be created, and there’s been a ton of travel since August 8 as well. In any case, it’s 10/3 as I write today, and I have a lot of issues to talk about. We’ll see how we do. So, first, we’ll hit Poe Dameron #30, with art by Angel Unzueta, colors from Arif Prianto, letters by VC’s Joe Caramagna, and cover art by Phil Noto.
This was the penultimate issue of the series, and by the time you’re reading this, the final issue has actually already hit - #31. So, you’ve seen the cliffhanger at the end of this issue resolved, and seen how we wrapped it all up. I actually just did an hour-long retrospective interview about the series as a whole with Comics With Kenobi - if you’re a fan, you should check that out. It’s not up yet but should be soon - I think it’ll be episode #82.
The trick with this issue was to develop an idea about Black Squadron’s efforts to locate new allies for the Resistance after/during the decimation we see in Episode VIII, and to show a picture of what might be happening in the galaxy at large as the First Order moves to concentrate its power after destroying the Hosnian system in Episode VII. I love thinking about that sort of thing - just building out the galaxy, and I know it’s something I have in common with a lot of Star Wars creators. I wanted things to look as dark as they could for Black Squadron when this issue ended, seen through the horrified lens of Poe as he listens to what he assumes is Jess Pava’s final transmission to him… and thanks to Angel and the rest of the art/production team, I think it came off perfectly.
On to the next one!!
